Child protection
Our commitment. Every child and young person who comes to CLA has the right to be safe, respected and listened to. This policy covers our weekly programmes, camps, trips and residential camp, and applies to everyone who works with us: staff, volunteers and visiting artists.
Who is responsible. Our child protection lead is the director, Kamal Karibou. You can reach him at info@creative-learning-academy.com or +370 695 45644.
Safe recruitment. Before starting, everyone who works with children at CLA provides a certificate showing they have no convictions that bar them from working with children, as Lithuanian law requires. We check references and experience, and every new team member is taken through this policy.
Supervision
- Children are supervised at all times while they are in our care.
- An adult is never alone with a child out of sight of others. One-to-one conversations take place in an open or visible space.
- On trips and at camps we count the children at every move from one place to another.
- Arrangements for the residential camp, including night-time supervision, will be published with the camp details.
Arrival and collection. We hand children over only to an adult you have named. If someone else will collect your child, tell us in writing beforehand. We will not let a child leave with an adult we do not know without your confirmation. Teenagers may arrive and leave on their own only with your written consent.
Health and allergies. When you enrol, tell us about allergies, medical needs and anything else that helps us look after your child. In an emergency we call 112 first, then you.
Photos and online contact. We photograph children only with your consent and never publish their full names. Staff do not contact children privately by phone or on social media. Messages go to parents, and for teenagers through group channels that parents can see.
Behaviour and respect. We never use physical punishment or humiliation. See also our anti-bullying policy.
If there is a concern
- If a child tells you something worrying, or you are concerned about a child, speak to Kamal Karibou straight away.
- When a child confides in us, we listen, take it seriously, do not promise to keep it secret, write down what was said and pass it to the child protection lead the same day.
- Where a child may be at risk, we report it to the State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service (Valstybės vaiko teisių apsaugos ir įvaikinimo tarnyba). In an emergency we call 112.
- Children can call Vaikų linija, the free helpline for children in Lithuania, on 116 111.
- Concerns about a member of staff go to the child protection lead. Concerns about the lead can be reported directly to the State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service.
Review. We review this policy every year. Last reviewed: November 2026.
